A cover keeps what makes a song recognisable, its melody and structure, and changes everything around it: genre, instruments, tempo feel and voice. Give the style in a few concrete words ("slow piano ballad, breathy female vocals, strings") rather than one vague one.
Short songs with a clear lead vocal give the most faithful covers. Busy mixes with several singers can drift further from the original melody. If the first two versions aren't what you want, change one word in the style and try again.
