A 50 MB WAV becomes roughly a 5 MB MP3 at 192 kbps.
Use the audio cutter to keep only the part you need.
WAV stores audio uncompressed: a stereo CD-quality recording uses about 10 MB per minute. MP3 at 192 kbps uses about 1.4 MB per minute and most listeners can’t tell the two apart. That difference matters when a file has to fit an email attachment limit (25 MB in Gmail), an upload form or a phone’s storage.
Keep the WAV when you will still edit, mix or master the recording, because every MP3 encode throws a little detail away. Convert to MP3 for the finished version you share: demos for bandmates, voice-overs for a client, field recordings for a podcast.
Recorders and DAWs often export 24-bit, 48 or 96 kHz WAV files. The converter handles those too and resamples to a rate MP3 supports, so you don’t need to bounce a separate 44.1 kHz version first.
Mono voice recordings stay mono, so a spoken WAV shrinks even further. Need just a section? Trim it with the audio cutter, which also exports MP3.
